We Came, We Saw, We Shopped: Indie Mart

[caption id=”attachment_17887” align=”aligncenter” width=”583”] Indie Mart drew many to shop, imbibe and enjoy the sun.[/caption]

The latest installment of Indie Mart drew local designers, artists, makers and their fans to Potrero flats for a sunny afternoon of independent shopping, outdoor strolling and, of course, drinking. We snapped shots of vendors manning booths stocked with everything from fused glass jewelry to vintage finds and mesh pendants. Read on to scope the pics.

Super Fishy, In a Good Way: Blu Kicks

School may have started up (note the snarling a.m. traffic this week), but we’re just getting prepped for San Francisco summer, a.k.a. regular people’s fall. A shoe you’ll want to kick back in for the sunny months ahead comes from local label Blu Kicks, a socially responsible line inspired by Hawaii’s - oddly enough - shoe-shaped Humuhumunukunukuapua’a fish that sales of the footwear help protect.

Founded by Victoria and Will Leonard after trying to devise a way to help the Humuhumunukunukuapua and its habitat, the San Francisco footwear company offers up casual slip-ons ($58) for men and women made of recycled canvas and natural rubber in beachy hues. Transparent soles reveal a fun fish design waiting underneath, while playful accents at the heel bring added visual interest.

For every sale, Blu Kicks donates $1 to ocean-focused non-profit organizations For the Fishes and Wild Aid.

Now Available Online: Azadeh’s Pretty Peplums (+ More)

Longtime local label Azadeh announced the launch of a brand new web store this month packed with its namesake designer’s made-to-flatter women’s apparel. It’s pricey, yes. But the garments find their way on to many a well-heeled local’s wish list, thanks to their rep for great fit and more-than-just-a-season potential.

Exuding Azadeh style are the dresses shown above. Shoulder-skimming sleeves, feminine shapes and just enough detail to make them stand out from the crowd would be enough on their own, but the office-to-cocktail party potential maxes out the intrigue.

SF Fashion Events: J-Pop Summit, SF Int’l Fashion Film Fest + More

Let’s Get Together: SF Indie Fashion Fall Internship

SF Indie Fashion is looking for a media-savvy, style-hungry fashion media intern. Selected intern will also contribute to our sister site, Digital Style Digest. Read on for the details.

If you love San Francisco, fashion, up-and-coming designers, technology and online media – and preferably all of them at the same time – you might be just who we’re looking for. We’re on the hunt for one or two amazing interns who want to dive into the local fashion scene, conduct interviews and cover events, take photographs and hone their journalism skills all while supporting a site devoted to the local, independent fashion community.

Successful candidates will:

- Have previous journalism and writing experience
- Be comfortable and professional reporting on events and conducting in-person, phone and email interviews in a professional, timely manner
- Possess the time and ability to turn around a minimum of two assignments per week. Must be able to do this reliably.
- Live in San Francisco and able to attend local fashion events each week, usually in the evenings and sometimes on weekends (being 21+ is a big help with this)
- Offer additional media skills, including previous video, photography, graphic design and/or social media and experience
- Have experience with or interest in learning wordpress
- Come to us with an interest in the role of small, local businesses and independent designers to the larger San Francisco fashion community

Why you’d want to intern for SF Indie Fashion:

- Hands-on experience reporting, writing and covering fashion events
- The chance to work with a local fashion writer/editor who will help you improve and hone your writing, editing and media skills
- A great deal of freedom to be creative
- Media access to designers’ studios, local fashion and shopping events, shows, sample sales, etc.
- The chance to network with key players in the San Francisco fashion industry
- The opportunity to develop a portfolio of clips and media samples you can use in the future
- A chance to immerse yourself in the local fashion scene
- The opportunity to improve blogging and social media skills
- Past interns have gone on to internships at publications such as 7×7, Refinery29, Footwear News, Marie Claire and have had their work featured in media outlets such as 7x7.com and the San Francisco Chronicle.

The ideal intern will be able to attend fashion events and conduct interviews on an ongoing basis and turn them into interesting, well-written, insightful features for SF Indie Fashion. Journalism and writing instruction will be offered to intern during the course of the internship, but basic writing and journalism skills – not to mention decent grammar – are absolutely required.

Note: We may also be looking specifically for a video, photography or graphic design intern. If that’s your skill set, please feel free to be in touch.

To apply, please send a resume, a work sample and an email outlining your interest in the internship to lsanders (at) sfindiefashion (dot) com.

Music Festival Fashion: Outside Lands

Music lovers from near and far gathered last weekend in Golden Gate Park for the highly anticipated 5th Annual Outside Lands Music Festival. Sure, people may call it “San Fran’s Coachella,” but let’s be ultra clear about one thing: we’ll win the fog contest every time. But onto the fashion. While some donned the usual festival look of cut-off shorts and crop tops, most of the crowd went the cozier - and more comfortable - approach. From sweaters and feathers to maxis and flannel, Outside Lands was all about layers, casual rock chic and cool elegance. We have the photos to prove it.

Check out the festival fashion we snapped below:
